I think something similar to that would be a great game mode for League of Legends. For you guys who don't know what it is a small summary: It's a PvE game mode in WarCraft III, a hero defense map. You pick a hero and have to defend a Base building (Nexus in LoL) against creeps. You work together with other players. Creeps can be spawned in different corners of the map so players have to spread out. Every few waves, strong super creeps are spawned.

By killing the creeps you level up. You level up really high actually and have real strong stats after a while. You also gain gold to buy some useful items. If you defend your base succesfully you and your mates move out to kill some bosses. I think a similar game mode can be established in League of Legends. I at least always had fun playing this map in WarCraft III.

WarIII had a powerful Editor who let you do nearly everything you wanted. And Blizzard created their first fun map. There were 2 communauty in WarIII Since Blizzard let the player create their own custom game/map, there weren't a lot of people playing the real game.

I mean there was an insanely high amount of people playing only custom game than the regular pvp RTS. The custom communauty.

The custom communauty was way more important than the true warIII RTS players. So we could say that warIII was based more on the Players creations than the real RTS created by Blizzard.( and they were a lot of maps like rpg / tower defense / mini game who were pve). RIOT won't allow an Editor like this. They want the LoL communauty to stay focus on the pvp action and competition aspect of the game. I'd have to say both groups were extremely large until several years after WC3 had been out. WC3 PVP would have stayed very large for a much longer time if blizzard didn't start ignoring hackers, but it was a very large group who played competitively. Yes custom maps is a huge appeal to many people but why can't people enjoy both?

That being said, I don't see why LoL can't have PvE modes to it also. Riot doesn't need to create a cool editor (which would be awesome) but there is no reason they couldn't create some fun PvE maps.

I'm actually kind of surprised we don't have a modern Warcraft III-esque game. I'm not talking about ladders or competitive gaming.

I'm talking about an entire game being supported by a mapmaking community. Not only is it really fun, but there are unlimited possibilities to be had and it inspires and encourages people to learn how to create games. I myself learned programming at a very young age from Warcraft, and I'm sure many others did too.

League of Legends was created by gamers, for gamers so it makes a lot of sense to me that Riot would support a mapmaking community but it really makes me sad that they don't. I like Riot Games, and I think it would be really cool if they created an entire new game so we could have nice things like this. League of Legends is fun and all, but it does get kind of repetitive and dull playing on the same four maps every day with the occasional limited game mode teaser.
